Fall Harvest Time--A Gathering of Mushroom Joy

What comes to your mind when you think of the Fall season?  Cooler weather, shorter days, colorful leaves, corn mazes, pumpkin farms and apple orchids and perhaps the spooky fun of Halloween.  Who would ever think it might include mushrooms.  For many epicureans, mushroom picking is a time to enjoy nature and the peacefulness that the forests offer when searching for this unique culinary ingredient with an earthy flavor.

So to celebrate the many uses of mushrooms in cooking, it has become my inspiration piece for a tablescape design too.  This month I am thrilled to be joining my good friends and fellow tablescape designers in the Fall Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by Rita of Panoply.  The hop begins on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 and will feature tablescapes which help celebrate the change of the season to our treasured Fall.  It is sure to offer each of us a glimpse into the many facets of the beautiful and colorful season.  Be sure to visit each of the links below to be inspired by all of the participating bloggers/designers.  It is guaranteed to provide some great ideas.

The Little Yellow Corner Store was truly inspired by the mushroom and was certain that the tablecloth of choice would work beautifully to display the basket filled with garden vegetables and selected fruit and, of course, mushrooms.  The tablecloth was a precious gift given to me from my dear sister before her passing.  It is an Eastern European design which exemplifies a charming simplicity to family gathering and dining.  I love the added basket of veggies that represents the tasty, made-from-the-heart cooking that goes on in many kitchens.

The use of individual  small, black cast iron skillets for each place setting adds to the home cooking theme.  A lot of great dishes come from the use of cast iron in skillets, dutch ovens and specialty loaf pans.  Of course, I have them all and have used them all.  The mini skillets really spell out "from scratch cooking."

And, of course, the three mushroom place card holder tops the skillet and includes a tiny red and white mushroom on the name card.

The black and white chicken napkin rings also reminds me of country cooking.

The large and small mini chicken basket plates with the attached checkered heads and wood red tails expresses a bit of whimsy to a celebratory tablescape.

The mini tiled Polish cutting board seems to fit in with the design of the table and serves to protect the table from a sharp knife while cutting warm slices of delicious, mouth-watering bread. In addition, the wine bottle holder was folded from a ric-rac trimmed napkin into a king's crown.  It conveys good country living and functions to protect any drips of wine from the bottle.

So sit back and enjoy a filling and comforting dish of mushroom and beef goulash and leisurely view the following links to other artists who are sharing their Fall tablescape creations on their blogs.

  11. Your table is so warm and inviting! The centrepiece reminds me of the bounty that is always found in autumn. In Canada we celebrate our Thanksgiving in October, and this would be a great addition to our Thanksgiving table! I adore the little skillets atop each plate. The design on the tiles is so pretty, and the napkin folded in Kings crown is a brilliant idea to hold the wine!
