Are You A Cutie Pie?

Summer is just around the corner and with it comes outdoor picnics.  A picnic basket full of flavorful grilled chicken, potato salad, vegetables and dip, fruit and, of course, a homemade pie.  This king-size meal is spread out over a soft, cozy blanket that covers the cool green grass or soft, warm sand and hungry appetites will wait no more.  

To welcome the celebratory "picnic season,"  and to remind me throughout the year of the fun of eating outdoors, I made some cute mini pie pin cushions.  A delicious assortment of flavors of cherry, lemon, chocolate or blueberry, they replicate the sweet goodness of the real thing during summer.  Some of them are even topped with a delicate swirl of sweet whipped cream.  

These cute little sweet pies make perfect Christmas ornaments too.  I can imagine a whole tree full of my favorite flavor, like cherry, for the Christmas season.  These adorable mini pies fit beautifully in mason jar hangers.  However, to prevent the hanger from its ability to swivel, the wire can be tied with a bow on each side where the wire meets the ring base or it can be glued.  The wire itself can also be painted to match whatever Christmas decor.  It makes the perfect "pie carrier" to hang on any tree.

These cute little mini pies are fun and easy to create.  I crave and certainly can't wait to make a banana cream, coconut cream, lime, apple and pumpkin pie.  Yum!  (These whimsical and playful pies are available for purchase in Craftygrannie's Forever Christmas store for anyone who is interested.  The wire mason jar carrier is not included.  See the link to the store in the sidebar.)
