The Magic of a Nutcracker Christmas Tablescape

 Merry Christmas.

What a beautiful time of year.  I am so happy to announce that with this blog posting, The Little Yellow Corner Store is also participating in the Christmas Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by Rita from Panoply starting on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024.  I am thrilled to join other tablescape designers who are displaying some of their best Christmas tablescape ideas.  Please take some time to leisurely view each of the links below and indulge in some of the most outstanding displays for the holiday.

The Little Yellow Corner Store choose to decorate for the holidays with a collection of nutcrackers from long ago.  After years of being in storage, it was time to bring them out.  It was easy to see why nutcrackers are collected in the first place.  It was time to cater to my imagination and immerse myself in the world of fantasy.  It seems that nutcrackers bring out the child in some of us, if not all of us.  It is a time to submerse ourself in a magical world and be allowed to do so as an adult.

It begins with my choice of salad plates which set the stage for the tablesccape.  The nutcracker plates were colorful and the most playful.

A nutcracker centered into a red drum vase and surrounded by greenery, peppermint picks and candy canes makes for a perfect centerpiece. It is so simple and easy to assemble too.

Nutcrackers were in the small details of the delicate glass stemware used for serving the wine.

Toy drum napkin rings seem to add more whimsy to the nutcracker design.

And, of course, the addition of two decorated bottle brush trees on the each side of the nutcracker centerpiece brings a bit of nostalgia to the table.  They are placed on two small red drums to give them more height.

Each placesetting receives one of the smaller nutcrackers.

The vintage multi-colored bulbs that run through the greenery as a runner, adds a greater hint of Christmases of the past, especially as evening comes around.

There was a little experimentation on which set of placemats would look best.  We decided to go with the knitted placemats in white, but the green and red plaid was lovely too.  The plaid seems to compete with the nutcrackers, so it was best to keep the white knitted placemats so that the nutcrackers would stand out.  It is a personal choice.

The buffet also carries the theme of the nutcracker with a small tree with mini wood nutcrackers, gift boxes, bells, frosted gingerbread cookies and other assorted ornaments.

And, of course, a nutcracker cookie jar to store all of those homemade Christmas cookies.

The fireplace mantel, the top of the china cabinet and the entrance to the dining room was also decorated with nutcrackers.  They look so playful.

Now it is time to plan for the holiday menu with foods as colorful as the tablescape. The nutcracker tablescape is like living out a fairy tale.  The food will be a nice addition, but the nutcrackers will compete for the most attention.

A nutcracker sweet bread dusted with a good helping of powdered sugar will help make mealtime stand out over the tablescape.  Who wouldn't like a nutcracker dessert placed on a layer of colorful chocolate balls too?

As my nutcracker story comes to an end, be sure to visit the following links to other Christmas designs.  There is one thing for sure and that there is bound to be an overwhelming choice of styles for planning your Christmas tablescape decor.  Enjoy browsing and The Little Yellow Corner Store would like to wish you all a ..........Very Merry Christmas!!!!!!  (Come visit us again.)

  13. Hi Marsha, I stopped by earlier and I came by again to leave a comment. First, I love nutcrackers and have a collection myself. I love your nutcracker theme especially the salad plates which bring lots of color to the top of the red dinner plates. The drum napkin rings are perfect for your nutcracker theme. I am so glad you brought out your collection for your enjoyment and for that inner child that comes out in all of us at Christmas. Have you counted how many you have? I love that one was at each place setting and on your pretty wine glasses.

  14. I love when a stylist sets tables based on things they've loved and collected over the years. The tables are so much more personal, and in the case of your nutcrackers, cute, festive and whimsical! The salad plates are delightful and I liked seeing the nutcrackers carried onto your mantel and the sideboard -- and the menu. I love the red drum vase and stands. The green tablecloth is a perfect base for all the lovely decor. I loved seeing the multi-color lights. Have a merry Christmas!
