A Northwoods Thanksgiving

Welcome to my neck of the woods in Wisconsin.  It is that time of the year when the garden is cleaned up, the veggies are canned, the last of the summer flowers displayed their fading beauty and the Halloween decor finished its final frightful purpose for the enjoyment of family and friends in the neighborhood.  The Thanksgiving holiday is right around the corner and it officially kicks off the entire Christmas holiday season and the many celebrations yet to come.

On Monday, October 17, 2022, our area had its first (very early) snowfall of the season and I believe there will be plenty of snow to arrive long before winter officially begins.  It is time to prepare and cozy up the house for those chilly snowy evenings.  This brings me to mention that in this posting, we are celebrating the warmth and kinship of the Thanksgiving holiday with other passionate tablescapers in the Thanksgiving Day Blog Hop hosted by our kind and thoughtful friend and fellow designer, Rita from Panoply on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.  Be sure to visit each of the links below to share in the celebration.

What pops into your mind when you think of Thanksgiving preparations?  To name a few, may I list the blessing of visiting family and friends, delicious food in abundance and a comfortable, intimate and thoughtfully decorated surroundings to relax, feel at ease and enjoy each other's friendship.  The best way to achieve a cozy, but laid back holiday setting is by putting together the perfect Northwoods inspired black and red buffalo checkered tablescape for that casual feeling of peacefulness and contentment.

A resting faux wood deer on pine branches as a centerpiece for the table adds a bit of rustic charm and elements of nature.

Plenty of greenery, pinecones (large and small) and deer antlers lends to the beauty of the great outdoors and refers to the time of year in Wisconsin for hunting that begins just before the holiday.

Even the bottle of wine needs to be dressed and made cozy with fur pom poms.

Some black metal pinecone napkin rings gather together double napkins.

Each placesetting is adorned with a small twig pumpkin and antique gold bells on the corner of each placemat that adds rustic detail to each plate.

You can't think of the Northwoods without thinking of pinecones and deer.

Even the sideboard includes an up north woodland theme with a black and red buffalo checkered runner and pinecone filled mini cast iron skillets with a red pillar candle.

The cute little black cast iron skillets were purchased during a Christmas sale many years ago and were a part of a kit to bake one giant chocolate chip cookie in the skillet.  I purchased four since the price was reduced and they were used for a table of four in my Camping tablescape years ago.  They were also used in my posting, Hot Chocolate on the Front Porch too.   If you missed the fun posting on camping, including a campfire cake, visit this link:  Cozy Camping-Indoors.  And as part of the porch decor to serve up some rich and creamy hot chocolate in the posting, Hot Chocolate on the Front Porch just visit this link:  Hot Chocolate on the Front Porch.

As you enjoy the tranquil surroundings of the Northwoods, you may find a visit or two from some of the animals that call it home, such as some cute bears.   I can't resist this sweet, moist and rich chocolate bear cupcakes.  Simple to make and such a pleasure to eat with a cup of hot coffee on a cold day.

If you are coming over from The Bookish Dilettante blog, I am sure you found it to be fabulous posting.  You have now reached the end of the list of links and you can agree that all of the designers who worked hard to put together some incredible Thanksgiving tablescapes for everyone to enjoy has truly lived up to that task.  I hope you enjoyed all of the links below and were able to come away with many fabulous ideas for the upcoming holiday.  If you are visiting The Little Yellow Corner Store first, please be sure to check out all of the following links to be inspired and wowed by all of the Thanksgiving holiday creativity.  Be sure to visit us again.  And have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

  4. I feel like I'm in the north woods here! Your table is so cute, and one thing I'm definitely taking away is using little cast iron skillets in a wintry vignette: BRILLIANT! Such a darling idea that I will borrow! I also love your bear cupcakes: They are the cutest! The flannel, pinecones, and candles make everything so cozy. I can't believe y'all have already had snow...in October! We rarely have any snow here in Central Alabama. Happy Thanksgiving!
