Quilts - Stunningly Beautiful Art with Fabric

Who wouldn't love to cuddle up on a cold, blistering winter night with a soft, warm and lovingly handcrafted patchwork quilt?  Each quilt has colorful, complementary pieces and coordinated patterns of fabric that have been carefully sewn together with plenty of love in every stitch.

Recently, I was very fortunate to visit the current exhibit, Ladies of the Lake Quilt Exhibit at the Rahr Art Museum in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.  This wonderful exhibit is presently open until January 30th, 2022.  Just see their schedule here:  https://www.manitowoc.org/2278/Current-Exhibits.  For those who live in the vicinity and wish to see this exhibit, the museum is located at 610 N. 8th St., Manitowoc, Wisconsin 54220.  Click on the following link for directions and their days and hours that they are open:  https://www.manitowoc.org/1036/Museum-Information

Definitely, each quilt (or wall-hanging) in the exhibit is impressive and I can only imagine the many hours of detailed work that went into making the refined and aesthetically pleasing piece.  Whether the pattern of the quilt is contemporary or historical, there is an enriching story befitting of its style.  Truly, these quilts with their kaleidoscopic color and fabric can be fully appreciated and greatly celebrated when they are hung on a wall rather than used to keep from getting chilled.

Although the following pictures are not all of the quilts in the exhibit collection, you can surely enjoy the stunning beauty of the ones that are pictured here.  Without a doubt, it would be difficult to pick just one favorite.

So let's begin our tour by introducing you to the mansion itself since the first quilt that follows the photos of the building is a quilt of the mansion.  It is amazing how the quilt captured so much of the details that are in the photo and the paintings of this gorgeous mansion built in 1893.  (For details about the history of the mansion, you can read about it here:  https://www.manitowoc.org/2195/Mansion

Of course, the smaller quilted wall hangings are breathtaking too.

So are the quilted pillows.

You can see that quilted fabric can make for a beautiful upholstered foot stool too.

I hope you will agree that these quilts are exquisite and exceptional.  The photos are just not enough to reveal their full beauty as it is when you view them in person.  The art of creating these strikingly superb and outstanding quilts certainly encourages me even more to add quilting on my bucket list of things I would like to learn.  Come see this exhibit for yourself and be astonished too.
