As American As Peanut Butter Cookies

There are so many wonderful ideas for celebrating the Fourth of July holiday.  Just do a search in Pinterest, for example, and you will be amazed.  I am always seeking out new ways to bring a smile at the dinner table and I am astonished at how many styles, design tips and recipes are on my list to try for this summer jubilee.

On the other hand, I also rely on my childhood upbringing and past celebrations to help me craft my own festive Fourth of July merrymaking too.  It is why my Americana tablescape, entitled, "As American As Peanut Butter Cookies", including my mother's recipe for homemade Peanut Butter Cookies has always embodied the Fourth of July holiday and is showcased in this blog article and in this week's Patriotic Blog Hop mentioned below.

In addition, some how apples became a part of the many symbols for this holiday for my family too.  I suppose it goes along with the saying, " It is American as Apple Pie."  This comfortable, homespun symbol is revealed in my use of apples in my Americana table decor and fruit kabobs.   But when it comes to the appropriate dessert for this important day, however, mom included her homemade peanut butter cookies. The recipe is included below.  There is something so homey and down-to-earth about her cookies.  Soft and so full of peanut taste.  Simple but yet so flavorful.  There is no need for a rich and complex dessert for this day.   All one needs is a couple of unpretentious peanut butter cookies with its familiar sweetness, slightly salty and fragrant flavor that is infused together to finish off a meal in a delicate, satisfying way.

Before we visit this Americana tablescape and the peanut butter cookie creation, let me also mention that a good way to find some creative patriotic suggestions is through the many unique designers participating in this week's Patriotic Tablescape Blog Hop.  Chloe Crabtree's hard work on her own blog, Celebrate and Decorate, and her hard work to organize this Patriotic Blog Hop centering around the Fourth of July holiday provides everyone the opportunity to collect more fun and celebratory ideas for their own events at home.  I hope you will enjoy browsing through the many blog links at the end of this article.

So let's begin.......

Flags, sparklers and faux firecrackers create the perfect, no-fuss details for the table.  Napkins and red bandanas make a simple and easy table runner.  The mixture of various patterns is all about an uncomplicated, effortless tablescape.

Galvanized steel chargers and a tiered centerpiece adds to the casualness and carefreeness of the day.

Some apple shaped watermelon kabobs are cool and refreshing and make a lovely red and blue statement on a stars and stripes plate.

Of course, there must be some candy snacks for the holiday.  These strawberry licorice whips wrapped in red, white and blue ribbon bundles are perfect for young and old alike.

A little patriotic white chocolate bark makes for a fun, sweet snack.

And, of course, some soft, delicious peanut butter cookies.

Mom's Peanut Butter Cookies

  17. I always look forward to the goodies on your tables, Marsha, both tablescaping and food-wise! Hmmm.. where shall I begin? I love the rich colors of your use of red, white and blue. The galvanized tier tray makes me want to linger and enjoy all the littles you've placed there. I love the mix of gingham navy & white against the red paisley bandanas on the center. The plate service is perfectly appointed at each setting. And now, I think I must make some peanut butter cookies. I have worn out the cherry almond glazed muffins, but luckily they freeze well, and pop right out for individual servings. I love them! It's a real pleasure to hop with you. Thank you for sharing your talents, and happy summer!
